Day 1 – Kampala Boda Boda Tour & Ndere Traditional Music
The famous Kampala boda boda city tour is a great highlight that opens you up to the country. The city tour goes on from say 10 am and that’s the time we will pick you up via car to Kampala the starting point. The tour will go on for 5 hours and that’s good enough. Come back to the hotel/lodge and refresh then I highly recommend we go to Ndere traditional music show which will start at 7 pm but we can leave the hotel 30 mins earlier. I am happy you won’t miss that show that only happens twice a week and that’s Wednesday and Sunday. After the show, we stay in Kampala at say African tribe or anything of that category like forest cottages for midrange, Luxury at kabira country club and Serena for luxury.
Day 2 – Murchison Falls Safari Adventure
MURCHISON FALLS – Uganda’s largest national park, located in Northern Uganda and close to West Nile, boasts the largest number of animals, the world’s strongest waterfalls, and the largest population of Rothschild giraffes/Nubian giraffes. Enjoy the great safari experience (game drive) at Murchison Falls National Park, spread around the Nile. In Africa, the big five game animals are the lion, African elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. The term “Big Five” was coined by ancient game hunters and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot using traditional tools. It’s all made easy these days, and you will be able to pursue all the Big 5 comfortably in a 4WD game drive. In the afternoon, at 2 pm, take a boat ride to the famous waterfalls (the strongest in the world) and be surrounded by crocodiles and hippos.
Wake up early in the morning and go for long game drives until 11 am. Also, enjoy the famous boat cruise that starts at 11 am until 2 pm, followed by lunch. In case you are not tired, we will do another evening game drive. Later, return to the lodge, Bwana Tembo Lodge, for glamorous camping.
Day 3 – Western Uganda’s Scenic Drive to Fort Portal
Best of Western Uganda
I believe that anywhere you choose to go in Uganda with Walters, you get more than just animals. It is beyond just an African safari, focusing mostly on gorillas and chimps. Nature, the people, and a few little off-track and scenic drives of Rwenzori Mountain and crater lakes are also part of the experience. Stay at one of my favorite lodges in Uganda – Lake Nkuruba Nature Reserve Campsite for upper-budget, or Kibale Forest Camp.
Early morning, drive to the top of the falls, then possibly track chimps before we start the drive from Murchison to Fort Portal.
The drive takes approximately 5 hours and goes through a very beautiful road, where we find the escarpment and Rift Valley with views of Lake Albert, making it one of the most scenic roads in Uganda.
Day 4 – Exploring Crater Lakes and Rwenzori Foothills
2-hour walk to explore some crater lakes and foothills of Rwenzori. Explore the region. Fort Portal is by far my favorite place in Uganda. Right from the people, nature, and beauty, I would not recommend visiting Uganda without seeing this place. It’s a great place to relax at the end of the day.
Relax and take a scenic drive, passing the equator to reach Queen Elizabeth and maybe try to see the tree-climbing lions or simply rest, relax, and enjoy a beautiful sunset or evening.
Queen Elizabeth is home to the second-greatest family of mammals in Uganda after Murchison Falls, and it is hard not to appreciate its sprawling 2000sq km landscape with the Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Edward, Lake George, Kazinga Channel, and Congo.
At times, we also follow the Ishasha route, where it is possible to take a game drive to see the tree-climbing lions, then go chimp tracking in Kalinzu Forest, take walks, or choose to take a leisurely boat ride. Whichever way you like. Stay at Kingfisher Lodge, offering the best view of the Rift Valley. It’s a luxury lodge, but we will stay because the owners are my friends. I can get you a deal at any place. Bush Lodge is good, but Kingfisher offers semi-luxury accommodations.
Day 5 – Queen Elizabeth National Park Exploration
Queen Elizabeth National Park: Game drive and afternoon boat ride on the channel before driving to Bwindi later at Buhoma. Stay at Ruhondeza Lodge.
Day 6 – Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Track gorillas in the morning from 7-8 am. Tracking continues until around 1 pm at the latest. It all depends on the trail and how far the gorillas are.
Gorillas can be tracked in two places in Uganda:
Bwindi – This is the largest forest and national park for gorillas, also widely known on the internet and in guidebooks. It’s a stunning impenetrable forest with over 20 gorilla families. Please share your fitness level so we can provide advice according to the difficulty of the trail.
Kisoro (Mgahinga Gorilla National Park), which neighbors Volcano Gorilla National Park in Rwanda and Virunga in Congo. The Nyakagezi group is found here. This group is unique because if you’re lucky, you can also see Golden monkeys. It’s the only place in the world where gold meets silver.
Kisoro is located in the far southwest of Uganda and borders Rwanda and Congo. This park of gorillas also borders Volcanoes Park in Rwanda and Virunga in Congo.
After gorilla tracking, have a relaxed afternoon/evening to unwind. The trail here is slightly easier compared to most places in Bwindi and can be favorable for older individuals, those with less time, or those who prefer an easier hike.
Stay at Ruhondeza Lodge. In our case, we will track at Buhoma or Ruhija since they are on the map.
There is also the possibility of heading to Lake Bunyonyi the day after tracking to enjoy one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Stay at Sharp Island Gorilla Lodge.
Day 7 – Crossing Borders: Uganda to Rwanda Adventure
Drive for 2 hours to enter Rwanda via the Cyanika border and head to Musanze/Ruhengeri, Rwanda’s second-largest city. Stay at La Palm.
While here, we will visit the Don Fonsy Museum.
Day 8 – Sunset Boat Ride & Island Hike in Kibuye
Be transferred to Kibuye, arriving in the afternoon. Enjoy a sunset boat ride and engage in a hike to one of the historical islands. Overnight at Cormoran Lodge Kibuye.
Day 9 – Canopy Walk in Nyungwe National Park
Transfer to Nyungwe National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Later, engage in an afternoon canopy walk. Overnight at Nyungwe Top View Lodge.
Day 10 – Cultural Tour in Kigali & Departure
Transfer to Kigali via the King’s Palace in Huye from Nyungwe. Overnight at Heaven Boutique Hotel or catch a flight out from Kigali.
