Day 1 – Journey to Lake Mburo: Zebras and Antelopes Await
A drive from kampala to lake mburo take around 5-6 hours depending on the stops. Among the stops are the equator where we stop to take on an experiment to see how water swirls clock or to ant close wise. The experiment is only 30 mins and then bathroom stops, coffee and possible food.
Safari to the countryside begins. Lying 250 km from Kampala is one of Uganda’s best kept game drives. Lake Mburo is among Uganda’s smallest, but most unique national park.
It is the most accessible and few parks to see zebras in Uganda, and the only game park to support a population of impala, the antelope creature Kampala is named after.
There are options available in the park to take the rare opportunity to see game by foot, or bicycles and stay overnight at one the lodges of choice as per the plan. We can do bicycles here; nature walks to track all animals. Lake Mburo is the park where one can freely walk in the park and even see all animals that are in this park.
Stay at either leopard lodge for budget lazy camping or Rwakobo Rock for midrange to luxury.
Day 2 – Embracing Tradition: Cultural Tour with the Ankole Cattle
We will go for a cultural tour of the longhorn Ankole cattle and the cow culture (Homestead tour). This kind of experience is very nice and personalized. Typically, it’s done in the morning starting at 7 am. What we would do is have a sip of coffee or tea in the morning, then embark on a two-hour cultural tour, returning for a proper breakfast. Later, we’ll rest and relax before further adventures in the evening.
Day 3 – En Route to Queen Elizabeth: Museums, Chimps, and Luxe Stay
Wake up in the morning and drive to queen Elizabeth national park where we will get later at the end of the day. We will stop for a cultural museum of igongo on the way for 2 hours. There is also a possibility of doing chimps of the afternoon at Kalinzu since Kalinzu is on the way to queen.
Stay at kingfisher lodge. It’s luxury but I can make it work.
Day 4 – Queen Elizabeth Adventure: Game Drives, Boat Cruise, and Mountain Vistas
Wake up very early morning at 6:00 am then after breakfast we head to morning game drive and then 11 o’clock boat cruise on the kazinga channel. There is a possibility of not doing game drives but rather going for chimps at Kalinzu. Your choice. You could do both if you had enough time. At around 1:30 pm when the boat finishes we head to more game drive before taking a scenic drive around Ruwenzori mountains to get to Fortportal kibale forest.
Stay at kibale forest camp. Great place.
Day 5 – Fort Portal Delights: Nature Walks, Crater Lakes, and Rwenzori Views
Wake up in the morning, enjoy nature, nature walks, crater lakes drives and walks. Later we can also go for small hikes around the foothills of rwenzori mountains. Something like 3 hours and amazing views.
Either stay another night in Fortportal at lake nkuruba nature reserve or top of the world.
Day 5 – Farewell Fort Portal: Homeward Bound from Uganda’s Wonderland
Explore some more then drive to kampala later.
