Day 2: Transfer to Mountain Rwenzori – A Scenic Journey
Early morning departure for an unforgettable journey to Mountain Rwenzori, which will take approximately 6-7 hours.
Along the way, you’ll traverse the picturesque landscapes of Fort Portal, often dubbed the “Switzerland of Uganda,” known for its stunning natural beauty.
As the day draws to a close, we’ll settle in for an overnight stay at the charming Opp Ruboni Camp, a part of the RMS Safari Lodge.
During your mountain adventure, rest assured that you’ll have comfortable accommodations in mountain huts complete with beds, as well as essential provisions such as food and drinking water.
Day 1 – Orientation and Ascent Commencement
Rise and shine! Our day begins with an informative briefing conducted by our experienced RMS and UWA guides. They will provide insights into the upcoming journey, safety protocols, and more.
Adventure begins: We lace up our hiking boots and set off on our remarkable hiking expedition. This is the moment you’ve been waiting for! Don’t forget to bring some essential hiking and climbing gear with you, as our porters will be available to assist with your luggage.
As the day comes to a close, we’ll reach Nyabitabba Camp, where you’ll find comfortable lodgings for a restful night.
Day 2 – Journey to John Maate Camp – Embrace the Mountains
The journey continues with a thrilling hike to John Maate Camp. This leg of the expedition allows you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Rwenzori Mountains. As you ascend, you’ll witness diverse flora and fauna, creating a unique and captivating experience.
Day 3 – Trek to Bukuku Camp – A Glimpse of Natural Wonders
Another day of discovery as we progress with a hike to Bukuku Camp. The ever-changing terrain and captivating landscapes will keep you engaged and inspired. Be prepared for some remarkable photo opportunities.
Day 4 – Reach Elena Hut – A Taste of High Altitude
Today’s adventure leads us to Elena Hut. As we ascend the rugged terrain, you’ll be greeted by increasingly dramatic vistas. This will be a challenging but highly rewarding day of hiking.
Day 5 – Summit Margherita Peak – Conquer the Peak
The highlight of the expedition: Summit day! We’ll conquer the Margherita Peak, which boasts permanent seasonal snow. The awe-inspiring views from this vantage point will leave you spellbound.
After reaching the peak, we’ll descend to Elena Hut for a well-deserved tea break.
Our journey continues to Kitandara, where you’ll find comfortable accommodations for a peaceful night’s rest.
Day 6 – Descent to Guy Yeoman Camp – Reflect on Your Accomplishments
Today marks the beginning of our descent, as we make our way to Guy Yeoman Camp. Descending the mountain offers new perspectives and the chance to soak in the surroundings you’ve climbed through.
Day 7 – Continue the Descent to Nyabitaba Camp – Memories and Farewells
The descent continues as we make our way to Nyabitaba Camp. This transition from the high mountain terrain to lower elevations provides a different set of challenges and a deeper connection to the natural environment.
Day 8 – Exit the Mountains via Nyakalingija – Journey’s End
Completing the mountain expedition: We exit the mountain via Nyakalingija, marking the conclusion of our incredible journey. This transition allows you to reflect on the remarkable experiences and achievements of the past week.
For your convenience and safety, make sure to bring personal gear, such as sleeping bags, climbing shoes, walking sticks, waterproof clothing, bandages, medical supplies, and mountain climbing equipment. Rest assured, the Rwenzori Mountains offer huts, food, porters, beds, and mattresses, while Uganda Wildlife Authority ensures your safety, minimizing the need to carry heavy loads.
If you have additional climbing equipment like ropes, crampons, harnesses, ice axes, caps, trousers, jackets/sweaters, rubber boots, gaiters, and gloves, you are welcome to bring them for added comfort and convenience during the climb.
