Start your journey to Fort Portal, a 5-6 hour drive from Kampala. On the way, you’ll be surrounded by picturesque green countryside.
Upon arrival in Fort Portal, enjoy a leisurely lunch and savor some coffee. Afterward, visit the breathtaking crater lakes. For those seeking a more immersive experience, consider exploring the region on foot or by bicycle, embarking on nature walks around the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
Venture just a 30-minute drive outside Kibale National Park to reach the stunning Lake Nkuruba, an essential stop for your itinerary. You can choose to stay for a night or two at this captivating campsite, which is renowned as one of Uganda’s most pristine and nature-reserved spots. Be forewarned that many of the monkeys in Uganda are known to approach closely and may even attempt to sneak away with your meals.
For travelers opting for mid-range or luxury accommodations, a brief or extended stop at Lake Nkuruba is highly recommended.
Day 2 – Nature Walks, Crater Lakes, and Journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park

In the evening, savor the picturesque drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, reveling in stunning views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the Albertine Rift Valley.
Queen Elizabeth National Park, spanning over 2,000 square kilometers, boasts the distinction of being home to the second-largest array of mammal species in Uganda, following only Murchison Falls National Park. The park’s diverse landscape includes the Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Edward, Lake George, the Kazinga Channel, and a border with Congo.
Day 3 – Wildlife Encounters and Return to Kampala
Consider following the Ishasha route, an option that allows you to embark on a game drive to spot the famed tree-climbing lions. You can also partake in Chimp tracking in Kyambura Gorge, take nature walks, or opt for a leisurely boat ride. The choice is yours!
Later, around 4 PM or thereabouts, commence your journey back to Kampala, which typically takes 6-8 hours. Expect to arrive late, around 9 PM.
